Exams and Cleanings in Bolingbrook, IL

At Sonrisa Dental + Orthodontics of Bolingbrook in Bolingbrook, IL, we’re trying to change the idea that people should only go to the dentist if their teeth hurt. Regular exams and cleanings are recommended by global dentistry entities. The recommendation is that adults need to visit their dentists at least twice a year or once every six months.

Going to the dentist for exams and cleanings means better dental hygiene. At Sonrisa Dental + Orthodontics of Bolingbrook, we’ll take good care of you during these visits and address any problems we find. If no issues are found, that means we can pay more attention to keeping your oral health in great shape.

Exams and Screenings

Dental problems are often silent. That’s why detecting them during regular exams and cleanings near you is vital. When you get a toothache that turns out to be due to a cavity or root canal problem, that doesn’t mean the problem started with the pain. It’s more likely that it has been ongoing for weeks and only started hurting you a few days ago.

When we examine you, we look for cavities and gum inflammation, among other things. These aren’t always easy to detect to the inexperienced eye. We also look for masses or anything that could resemble cancer. The sooner cancer is detected and treated, the better the outcome and survival.

If anything is found, it will need to be investigated further. This can be done using x-rays for dental problems, and biopsies for anything we suspect might be cancer.

Dental Cleanings

What you do at home in brushing your teeth and flossing every day is of the utmost importance but isn’t a substitute for in-office cleanings. Plaque and tartar can build up over your teeth, and they’re not things that will come off by brushing your teeth more frequently or roughly. They can only be removed using the tools we have.

We try to make our office a calm and relaxing place, so patients are encouraged to come in for their exams and cleanings. Getting dental cleanings may seem bothersome, but they’re for your best interests.
